This is Calgary’s Shooting Centre and we have proudly served Calgary for over TEN years and are eagerly looking to make it 20!
JR first proclaimed his intentions to start his own firearms academy back in the late 1980’s when he was running the S.A.I.T. gun club and going to school. It may have been a pipe dream back then. However, TSE was eventually founded by two military shooting buddies; JR and JB. These two gentlemen while serving in different parts of the military did share a passion for shooting and in fact competed with and against each other for a number of years.
It was however, JR who eventually took the reins and upon his return to Canada from his second military tour in the Balkans in September 2000, set out and actually put words to paper and with JB’s assistance and partnership made TSE a reality. It wasn’t easy, and not without the loss of many trees due to all the revisions and changes of the business plan, but eventually simply tenacity won out and in September 2001 the keys for the current location were turned over to JR and by December 2001 the retail area and pistol bays were operational and by mid January 2002 the facility was complete.
There have been many changes over the years as well as many face changes. However, the vision has steadfastly remained the same.
Over the past 10 years, we have expanded considerably in both size and offerings. Our courses have grown in number and we can proudly say that over 10,000 students have taken their PAL training through TSE.
As in all things in life, change is inevitable and in December 2009, JB left the organization in pursuit of other opportunities. While we miss his expertise and input, his departure was all the impetus JR needed to embark on an aggressive renovation plan. JR did not just want to renovate the building; he wanted to reinvent the TSE experience.
The shooting industry is never without challenges and with the Calgary Farmers Market opening up next door, there have been a new host of situations. However, as neither group is leaving, compromises have been made and we believe TSE and the CFM are in a great position to grow together.
What we have now is a modern and clean, safe club. However, have no fear; JR is always thinking about the next project to lead this club forward.
We are much more than just a shooting centre. We want to be Calgary’s Premier Shooting Centre.
To achieve this, we must achieve a very personal connection with our customers and partners. By doing this, we are able to develop a strong insight into the marketplace and provided the energy to grow in a very dynamic and challenging industry.
This same connection has also helped us develop a deep loyalty that is only earned through years of consistent, reliable supply and service.
From our humble beginnings as two serving military men with a passion for competition shooting, our business has grown from simply selling accessories in our spare time to now being a national industry leader.
